A Personal Shift in My Artistic Practice

My recent work reflects a turning point in my creative journey—one rooted in personal loss, memory, and healing. Among the most meaningful pieces I've made is a painting of Echo Lake, created in honor of a childhood friend who spent years running it. The lake held his rhythm, his breath, his peace. The old inn, built in 1799, stood as a quiet witness to the passage of time—and to many lives, including his.

Not long ago, he passed away. I gave him the painting before he left us, hoping it would offer a moment of stillness, of pride—something of himself reflected back through my hands. That simple, deeply human gesture unlocked something new in my practice: a way of painting that blends grief and gratitude, memory and presence, art and farewell.

As I move forward, I’m not alone. My daughter Erin and I are now working together on this evolving chapter. Erin has faced medical challenges of her own in recent times, and through this collaboration, we’re finding a shared space to process, to create, and to heal.

The new art we plan to make together will be smaller in scale and more affordable—designed to reach more people while staying true to the intimacy of our shared vision. This body of work will include original works on paper, hand-printed tote bags, and blank cards (stamps included) to help people connect with one another—for no reason other than kindness, surprise, and simple human connection.

This new work is personal. It's layered. It’s where story, brush, and heart meet—and I look forward to sharing it with you.
